There is no doubt that the tournament’s opening game between Chennai Super Kings And Gujarat Titans will be the highlight of the opening round of fixtures for most as it brings the two very popular teams together. However, each game possesses its questions, like will the Gujarat Titans be able to continue their winning journey in IPL?, or will Chennai make a comeback from last season, bagging the seventh place in the league stage of the previous year? Will Kolkata Knight Riders form a cohesive unit and bag the trophy this time? Who will win the battle of the basement boys as the Royals take on the Kings? Will this IPL witness a new winner?  No matter what the answer to these questions is, the most rhetorical question you can ask is will these games bring the same drama as the years gone by, and we all know the answer to that!

Despite Gujarat’s dominance in IPL 2023 with 20 points in the Points Table, it was a tightly contested season as only two points separated second place from the second team of the table. Rajasthan Royals was in the second position with 18 points, followed by Lucknow Super Giants with 18 pts in the league stage.  The tournament also highlighted the fact that the young captains of both the new entrants performed really well. To adjust themselves according to the changing conditions of the Championship, teams have tried to come up with new tactics, which is evident from IPL 2023 auction.

Stats of the last season: Some of the best performers of IPL 2022

Jos Buttler  of Rajasthan Royals was the leading run-scorer by some margin scoring a mighty impressive 863 runs, with a stunning average of 57.33, with 4 Centuries and 4 Half Centuries. He was followed by KL Rahul of Lucknow Super Giants, who scored an impressive 616 runs, with an amazing average of 51.33 runs. In the bowling department, it was a mix of spinners and fast bowlers.  The leading wicket-taker was Yuzvendra Chahal(Rajasthan Royals) with 27 wickets, closely followed by Wanindu Hasranga(Royal Challengers Bangalore) with 26 wickets. Both the highest run hitter, as well as the highest wicket-taker, was from Rajasthan Royals, which made them reach the finals of the IPL 2022.

Jos Buttler also became the most valuable player of the season with the highest 387.5 points for his remarkable performance in the IPL 2o22.

As per usual, the tournament unearthed some young Indian talent in Umrain Malik, Shubman Harshal Patel, and Sanju Samson who all finished amongst the top ten performers in their sections.

The number of overseas players on the field remains the same, which is four. Plus the total number of allowed overseas players is eight.

Either way, this year’s tournament has many different permutations like years gone by and will shed some light on these current darker days we currently find ourselves in.
