The team that has a partial ownership stake with Bollywood actress and Big Brother-fame Shilpa Shetty, made calculated investments at the recently-held players’ auction, snapping five players to bolster their batting as well as bowling. Brad Hodge fetched a price of $475,000 following his stints in the IPL (with Kolkata Knight Riders), Big Bash League and Bangladesh Premier League. In addition, Dinesh Chandimal, who has been in good form for Sri Lanka, will be with the Royals for $50,000. Amongst the bowlers, Sreesanth ($400,000) and Brad Hogg ($180,000) add variety and firepower to a line up that also boasts of Shaun Tait and Johan Botha. Rahul Dravid is the team captain while Shane Warne is the mentor after captaining the team in the earlier seasons. It will be interesting to see if Ross Taylor, currently out nursing an injury, is fit in time for the start of the IPL. In his absence, the burden of batting will largely fall upon the shoulders of Hodge, Dravid, Paul Collingwood and Swapnil Asnodkar.

While a massive turn around should not be expected of them, Rajasthan Royals are capable of putting up a crafty performance on their day, and a lot will depend on the availability and form of their international signings.
