IPL Auction 2012 – IPL 5 Players Auction Date 4 February 2012
IPL 5 auction on Feb 4 in Bangalore. The auctions for the fifth edition (ipl auction for 2012) of the Indian Premier League will be held on Feb 4 2012 and will see the teams being allowed an extra purse of $2 million. The teams will be able to buy the players from the auction using this money. It was also decided that Chris Gayle and Sourav Ganguly will continue playing with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Pune Warriors respectively and hence both these teams do not have the entire $2 million cap that other teams have.
It was also decided that all the players from the Kochi Tuskers side will be put back into the auction and that will mean there will only be nine teams for the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League. It is estimated that around 144 players will go into the IPL 5 auction, among which 27 players were of the Kochi IPL team.
The tournament will also see the sides play each other once a piece at home and away and there will be a total of 76 games in the tournament.
The squads will also be allowed to have 33 players in them with 11 foreigners allowed as compared to the 10 in the previous cases. The playoffs and the final will be held in Bangalore and Chennai respectively.
It was also said that if any of the Kochi players did not make it to any other team, their salaries will be taken care of by the bank guarantee that was encashed by the BCCI. There are 8 Indians, 30 South Africans and 32 Australians for the IPL 5 auction.
